Financial Depths reaches 1k Plays! Update to come?!


Thank you everyone for playing this game, It means a lot!

I don't know if 1K is a lot in the grand scheme of things, but it's a record to me, and is just a substantial number overall. Especially in less than a year!

When I made this game for the Ludum dare 48 Jam, I thought I was on to something great and unique! I envisioned "It's like an RPG, but the characters are credit cards and foes are bills. Because we all know bills are evil."

Due to time limitations I couldn't entirely reach my full vision, but I do think I managed to capture the essence of it.
You have credit cards with random stats, and you can recruit more along your Journey, You face evil Bills that get stronger as you go through the weeks. There is "Strong bills" with multiple HP bars that are like bosses. There's even a subtle story being told through the actual bills you are paying (at least the 25 campaign weeks).

3 features that didn't make it in are:

Team management: I recommend not taking every cards because some are bad, but you are stuck with them once you take them. You were initially supposed to Pick up cards and discard them as you went along. A rotating and evolving "party" of sorts.

Special Abilities: A crucial part of selling the RPG was credit cards having Special Abilities. Cashback returns some money like "absorb" and travel points which built up for all included trips (skip weeks).

"Elemental" synergy: Now credit cards, don't have elements like fire, water, wind, but they sometimes have gimmicks for specific goods. This was meant to mix with the special abilities so that paying specific kind of bills with the right kind of cards leads to cashback or travel points.

Bonus: Run was supposed to be RNG like a run from battle. its 100% game over now and I think ill keep it that way.

Nonetheless, I think the game works well as is and the reception has been good. Even got a shout out by itch!

With the 1k plays, a bunch of collections, positive comments in and out of the Jam, I feel like there is some interest for the game and I'd like to give it an update. I am of course thinking of adding the features that didn't make it (if they work well) and perhaps a bit more based on feedback.
